About Us

There is something magical about taking a photograph, and being able to experience a moment in time over again. But as a photographer the feeling goes deeper than that, looking through the lenses at the subject, be it a person or a lone tree in a field. Right before the shutter snaps there is a moment where the photographer feels for that moment in time, that there is nothing else in the world except them and the subject. Photographs speak louder and more often than words. They are a ticket into the past, they are the feeling that touches your heart and a moment recorded forever.

We are the Erika & Ryan a team. we both find beauty and order in chaos, watching for the delicate interplay of light and contrast and -SNAP- there is that moment. That moment of shear natural beauty in everyday things. We approach our calling with an openness of spirit, an openness of mind that allows us to become caught in a moment of time, however minute to find the perfection that exists in everyday moments. Perfectionists at heart, we are driven to improve, learn, and to find the connections between technology and artistry, nature and mathematics; there is a mathematical equation within every image. We experiment with new media, lighting techniques, proportion, layering. We are driven to develop constant mastery of technical skill which we realize is the unattainable goal and therefore will provide us with a lifetime of learning opportunities.

We don't like to use chemicals for development, nor do we want to waste paper, so we view our images on the computer and print only the very best. We enjoy photographing a variety of subjects, be them people, or inanimate objects, landscapes or interiors. Delving into different worlds keeps us fresh and creative. Each different area of photography we tackle helps to compliment another and only helps us to fulfill our ongoing quest for knowledge.

But at the end of the day the purpose of our photography like all art is to share the beauty of the world and to evoke emotion. To tell a story through the image, to create a believable subject and to deliver a message of truth. Our art is 50% heart and 50% soul, its speaks to us on so many levels with so many layers. It is every ounce of who we were at that moment in time, it is a reflection of our life, our family, and our community. It reminds us of our past, and is helping to pave the road for our future.

The Annett Wedding

June 23rd 2007 was a day that only brides dream of, clear blue skies, light breeze in the air and the wedding celebration of a lifetime.

Cheryl sat in the chair at 3 Small Rooms Salon in Barrie, Ontario as her bridesmaids peered into the mirror at her, Teary eyed because Cheryl is the last of their friends to finally get married. The stylist teasing her hair chats with Cheryl about how Mark and her met. “We met in Mexico on vacation!” exclaims Cheryl “And we are going back for our honey moon” A light “awww” rings throughout the salon as all of the stylists look over at her.

Mark and the boys are out on the golf course, Ryan meets up with them halfway through to grab some action shots before they headed to the hotel to get ready, and 15 minutes later they were.

Cheryl’s hair is fantastic, a loose looking updo, that she could easily take down at the reception, it was like something you would only see on a red carpet in Hollywood, it really deserved its own photo shoot.

The limo pulled up to take the party back to Cheryl’s parent house. There her flowers had arrived, large pink, corral and white peonies surrounded by green, the perfect accent to the bridesmaids simply elegant corral knee length dresses. I snap Cheryl as she gets in close to smell her bouquet “They look amazing!” she says. Cheryl’s dress was a long, cream lace mermaid style gown, that had enough buttons to involve the entire wedding parties help in fastening.

The ceremony and reception site at Tangle Creek Golf Course was like something out of a travel magazine, the bright greens, the mature tree line, the big white tent for the ceremony. I watched as the limo pulled around the back of the club house , each bridesmaid walking and crying all the way to the tent of guests waiting for the main event, waiting for the bride. Cheryl and her father slowly walk the path to the tent, and her guests stand, whispering among themselves how “beautiful she looks”.

After the ceremony guests were lead to the veranda of the club house where they sipped cocktails and nibbled on hors d’oerves until the newlywed couple returned from their wedding photo shoot. The most perfect lighting for photos as the sun started to set on an overcast sky giving a warm glow to their skin.

Mark & Cheryl were introduced as husband and wife into an elaborately decorated hall with large paper flowers hanging high above our heads. Dinner was served during speeches, kind words and tears were shared and shed, and a slideshow of Mark & Cheryl’s lives played on large screens. Mark and Cheryl’s first dance took the party late into the night, and a great night it was.
