• Welcome to our website

We are Erika & Ryan, the internationally published and award winning photographer team behind Rowell Photography. Specializing in Wedding Photography for Destination Weddings near or far, Portraiture & Family Photography. Located in Barrie Ontario, halfway between Toronto and the Muskokas.

We really do have the best jobs in the world! But it didn’t come without the help of our amazing clients. Thank you!

In 2005 when we started our little photography business, never did we imagine that it would take us on such an exciting journey. From traveling the world to being published in magazines like McLean’s, WedLuxe, Today’s Bride, Weddingbells, B Magazine (Ireland), Perfect Wedding, and tons of online blogs, newspapers near and far, even being interviewed on CBC Radio twice. since then we have been lucky enough to work all across Canada, France, England, Czech Republic, Mexico and Dominican Republic photographing couples in love, growing families and many amazing stories.

What we love most about shooting weddings and engagements is watching each couples love story unfold right before our eyes, its like we are watching them fall in love for the first time. We enjoy the challenge of creating something new and fresh for each couple we meet. We truly love what we do, and hope that our images portray the passion we have for photography and storytelling! We are in the business of telling stories, love stories, family stories and life stories, and we can’t wait to tell yours. We hope to hear from you soon!

Okay this is my last post of the day…

So lately the weather in Barrie has been ridiculous, 80km winds, freezing cold, and very dry. It reminds me of the trip Ryan and I took to Winnipeg Manitoba in the winter of 2005. We flew down to visit Ryan’s mom and just check out the city. The weather in Winnipeg is much like the weather we have now in Barrie, so i looked up a few photos from our trip. I had completely forgotten about these photos and i think they are funny, so I hope you enjoy these photos from Winnepeg as much as we enjoyed taking them.

personal Okay this is my last post of the day...

Okay so maybe we didn’t see native folk chasing Buffalo while we were out there, but we did go to the museum of natural history and take photos of the amazingly designed sets.

personal Okay this is my last post of the day...

The entire museum was built around this beautiful ship.

This set design looks like a painting my grandparents used to have in their house.

The girl with 3 jobs

Last week we had Emily in the studio, she was a contestant of BNTM season 3. Barrie’s Next Top Model goes by so fast, and we really only get a little time to get to know them during the event, we were lucky enough to get to know a little more about Emily at our photo shoot.

Emily is a very fun girl, hardworking, and smart. She is holding down 3 jobs, 1 as a Doctor’s office clerk, 1 at a grocery store and 1 as a local actress and model with Potentials Model and Talent Agency. She is a very busy girl, trying to save up for university where she plans on studying engineering.

This girl is pretty impressive, and she takes a great photo too!

Here are a few from her shoot.

Great job Emily!

Good luck this year!

Barrie’s Next Top Model Beginnings

Yesterday when I was looking back in our archives I found one of the first ever BNTM photo shoots from season 1, live in the Kozlov Mall. This was very early 2006 I believe.
The theme was a 1950′s malt shop.

I just thought these were cute!

Enjoy

Guess who turns 27 today!!??

RYAN! So to celebrate this wonderful day i went into the Rowell Photography vault and pulled out some oldies. Maybe some of you remember Ryan when he looked like this….
personal Guess who turns 27 today!!??

This one is my favorite, i love the tie chain he is wearing.

personal Guess who turns 27 today!!??
This is when Ryan was running for office in the 2nd grade, in almost all of Ryan’s school photos he wore a little man suit and red tie.

The Whistle-snaps!

So now that Alanah has signed on with Potentials Model and Talent Agency, I thought we would get her back in the studio for another modeling photo shoot, just to get her practicing being in front of the camera.

She brought the cutest party dress, and we took some really fun, vintage style shots. She is getting to be a real modeling pro! She knows exactly what she wants to wear, and exactly what angles we should be shooting her at, and she even schedules her own breaks. It’s pretty hilarious!

Oh yes, if you are wondering why this article is called “the whistle-snaps” its because Alanah told me during the shoot that she can snap and whistle at the same time and her brothers can’t, so the last photo is Alanah doing her Whistle-snaps!.

Enjoy!

Thanks Holly for bringing her out again, next time coffee is on us!

Erika & Ryan

This first set of 3 images is my favorite, I have wanted to do a vintage 1950′s inspired shoot of a child for a while now. I actually found the inspiration in an old 1950′s children’s illustration book. I finally found the right kid who just happened to have the perfect dress.

The more I look at these images the more I fall in love with them, not just because I love vintage photography, or sepia, but because the, to me, are simple and honest images of a little girl. My original inspiration was to have the little girl skipping just like the illustration I saw, but our studio isn’t quite that big. One day, fingers crossed, we will have a massive studio.

…and a little color. I think Alanah looks very Shirley Temple in the 2nd shot.

When Ryan and I saw this shot in editing later that day, we just had to laugh. We have no idea what expression this is, but it is priceless and so Alanah.
