Artist Statement

There is something magical about taking a photograph, and being able to experience a moment in time over again. But as a photographer the feeling goes deeper than that, looking through the lenses at a subject be it a person or a lone tree in a field, right before the shutter snaps there is a moment where the photographer feels for that time, that there is nothing else in the world except them, the subject and the camera. Photographs to us speak louder and more often than words. They are a ticket into the past, they are the feeling that touches your heart and a moment recorded forever.

We are the consummate team. Both find beauty and order in chaos, watch for the delicate interplay of light and contrast and -SNAP- there is that moment. That moment of shear natural beauty in everyday things. We approach our calling with an openness of spirit, an openness of mind that allows us to become caught in a moment of time, however minute, and find the perfection that exists in everyday moments. Perfectionists at heart, we are driven to improve, learn, and to find the connections between technology and artistry, nature and mathematics; there is a mathematical equation within every image. We experiment with new media, lighting techniques, proportion, layering. We are driven to develop constant mastery of technical skill which we realize is the unattainable goal and therefore will provide us with a lifetime of learning opportunities.

We don't like to use chemicals for development, nor do we want to waste paper, so we view our images on the computer and print only the very best. We enjoy photographing a variety of subjects, be them people, or inanimate objects, landscapes or interiors. Delving into different worlds keeps us fresh and creative. Each different area of photography we tackle helps to compliment another and only helps us to fulfill our ongoing quest for knowledge.

But at the end of the day the purpose of our photography like all art is to share the beauty of the world and to evoke emotion. To tell a story through the image, to create a believable subject and to deliver a message of truth. Our art is 50% heart and 50% soul, its speaks to us on so many levels with so many layers. It is every ounce of who we were at that moment in time, it is a reflection of our life, our family, and our community. It reminds us of our past, and is helping to pave the road for our future.

Our rockin’ Trade show Booth!! ~ The video

Almost a year ago we posted some photos on the blog of our trade show booth from February 2008 (see here), and we had an amazing response about it. We have been still receiving emails asking us how we did it.
Ryan put this video time lapse of the production of the booth the day before our trade show. The entire thing took us 4 hours to put together, (as it was our very first time putting the entire thing together) and the take down only 1 hour and 30 mins. back into the truck.

Here is the video:

January 21, 2009 - 10:19 pm Ryan Rowell - the dimensions aren't anything special, just 2:1 so I went out the back 1' and up the wall 2' as for how to attach them I would suggest screws but that is up to you if you want to use glue but you might be there a while. The back was setup so I could put sandbags over the brace, but used water softener salt bags instead so they would have a use later.

January 21, 2009 - 7:44 pm Henry - Could you give me the dimensions of the triagular stand that you built to hold the wall up and how you went about attaching all of the pieces? Thanks in advance

January 7, 2009 - 4:40 pm Melanie - Ok, loved the visual! I'm curious about the album, was that submerged in water? If so, what album company makes an album substantial enough to withstand the water. Very cool. Thanks for sharing! Melanie

January 7, 2009 - 2:24 pm Ryan & Erika - Glad it was helpful, I will give more detail later on the prep and build of the parts.

January 7, 2009 - 1:27 pm Phyllis - This is great! The booth looked wonderful and the video was very helpful. Thank you for posting this for us.

January 7, 2009 - 12:56 pm Ryan & Erika - I thought is was funny, especially when the tape measure fell three times off the side of the booth. The couch was found at Home Hardware's Home Furniture store. The middle section is great as a little table to put the album on for two people viewing, and the coffee table was used as a seat most times too.

January 7, 2009 - 12:54 pm Ryan & Erika - Thanks Lori, I almost forgot that you were there, so you would know.

January 7, 2009 - 12:24 pm Emma - Wow that was crazy.........Looks amazing and well worth all the work! I love how precise Ryan was at putting up the pictures.......you should hang out with my husband.......so similar! P.S. Where did you get that couch! I love the middle arm rest thing!

January 7, 2009 - 9:33 am Lori Collins - Your booth was sooo comfy! Great job!

January 7, 2009 - 2:58 am Erika & Ryan - The whole thing took 4 hours, the last little bit of video is from the trade show, but the building was 4 hours.

January 7, 2009 - 2:47 am Kevin Lam - What an awesome setup! Just curious what was the total elapsed time of the video? :)

January 7, 2009 - 2:03 am Crystal @ Distinct Occasions - LOL this was cool... way to go with the display! I'm sure it'll be a smashing success! Good luck :)
