Its amazing how much I didn’t know about Mexico, I almost felt out of place because I didn’t take the time to learn very much before we visited. Mexico is an amazing country, its beautiful, it has so much history, and Ryan and I are suckers for old architecture, ancient civilizations and mythology.
While we were in Mexico we took 2 tours (no we were not brave enough to venture out on our own we traveled with a group) the second tour was featured in a previous post to the Tulum Ruins in Quintana Roo Province not too far from our resort. But our first tour, Ryan and I traveled by bus for 3.5 hours to Yucatan Province to visit Chichen Itza. One of Mexico’s most popular religious sites. The pyramids were amazing, we had never seen anything that old before. It was one of those experiences you will remember for the rest of your life. We were just 3 days too early for the Spring Solstice where the shadow of the Feathered Serpent can be seen on the side of the El Castillo (pyramid) at Chichen Itza.
On that same trip we visited a Cenote, which is pretty much a large cave that you can swim in. Its in the jungle and I believe there are around 80+ of these Cenotes all over Mexico. They act as underground water ways. The Cenote is spring fed from underground so the water is really dense with minerals, so when you get a mouth full of it and accidentally swallow the water like I did your stomach instantly hurts.
I jumped in from about a 16 foot platform into the water. Ryan caught some awesome pics, and a video!
Here they are!
El Castillo!

Carving of a warrior in the ball court.

This was my favorite building from the Chichen Itza, it had hieroglyphs around all the door frames.

Little Mayan Village

The Cenote: The roots from the trees just hang down almost touching the water. It would be awesome if we could swing from them, but they were too high up.

Sunset from our room.

We managed to cram in a ton of activities during our week in Mexico, next time we are there we plan on para-sailing.
Enjoy our pics! This is our last Mexico post.
Now back to our normal lives ahaha!
