Touring Mexico | Erika & Ryan

Its amazing how much I didn’t know about Mexico, I almost felt out of place because I didn’t take the time to learn very much before we visited. Mexico is an amazing country, its beautiful, it has so much history, and Ryan and I are suckers for old architecture, ancient civilizations and mythology.
While we were in Mexico we took 2 tours (no we were not brave enough to venture out on our own we traveled with a group) the second tour was featured in a previous post to the Tulum Ruins in Quintana Roo Province not too far from our resort. But our first tour, Ryan and I traveled by bus for 3.5 hours to Yucatan Province to visit Chichen Itza. One of Mexico’s most popular religious sites. The pyramids were amazing, we had never seen anything that old before. It was one of those experiences you will remember for the rest of your life. We were just 3 days too early for the Spring Solstice where the shadow of the Feathered Serpent can be seen on the side of the El Castillo (pyramid) at Chichen Itza.
On that same trip we visited a Cenote, which is pretty much a large cave that you can swim in. Its in the jungle and I believe there are around 80+ of these Cenotes all over Mexico. They act as underground water ways. The Cenote is spring fed from underground so the water is really dense with minerals, so when you get a mouth full of it and accidentally swallow the water like I did your stomach instantly hurts.
I jumped in from about a 16 foot platform into the water. Ryan caught some awesome pics, and a video!

Here they are!

This was my favorite building from the Chichen Itza, it had hieroglyphs around all the door frames.

The Cenote: The roots from the trees just hang down almost touching the water. It would be awesome if we could swing from them, but they were too high up.

We managed to cram in a ton of activities during our week in Mexico, next time we are there we plan on para-sailing.
Enjoy our pics! This is our last Mexico post.

Mark Kostel - Word up Barrie?

Pics are uber fun. The water is amazingly blue. Reminds me falls in St Lucia. Love the post prod on the first pyramid.
Lets collectively think of temps above 20C’s because I had no idea that Port Credit was in the snow belt.

Cheers
Mark

Ryan Rowell - 4 Cameras were taken to Mexico with us. 2x40d 5dmkII and g9. on this trip we brought a 40d and 5d with us. it was shot on a Manfrotto mini pod with a timer trigger. Helps when your at that high of f-stop not to worry about focus so much but when there are two of you, you can pre-focus on the other and then jump in.

Sebastien Auger - Nice stuff as usual guys. But who took the picture of you 2? And which camera do you bring when travelling?
Seb

Apryl - Great stuff Guys! I could actually feel how warm it was there just by looking at your photos. In fact, with all the snow we have today, I may be looking at them all day to make me feel better!
