Every year there is always one wedding that for one reason or another stays close to my heart. This year Ehsan & Newsha’s Toronto wedding rocked my world. It made me laugh and cry (but in my defense they had everyone at the reception sobbing like babies)
It was beautifully understated, their traditional Persian ceremony was held at their families house, and the reception was held at Toronto’s Historic Distillery District in an art gallery. Ehsan’s brother designed Newsha’s wedding gown. Check out Mohammad Rahmanian’s bridal couture line here .
This was the first time Ryan and I had ever photographed an Persian wedding ceremony. We love how every single element of their ceremony means something. Here is a bit of info we learned about the ceremony. Aghd, is the legal ceremony of the Persian wedding, has evolved from ancient Persia and symbolizes a combination of religion and culture. The actual wedding ceremony takes place along side the “Sofreh Aghd” an elaborated spread containing several items, which symbolize different qualities that the couple would hope to bring into their new lives together. For that reason, the Sofreh preparation is taken very seriously and its significance is perhaps the best part of a Persian wedding. Most of the items were foods, like fruits, and nuts. For example: Honey (Asal) which the couple tastes right after the ceremony, which is said to sweeten their new life.
After the ceremony Ehsan & Newsha hopped in the limo and we headed down to Toronto’s lake shore for some photos. We ended up at Pier 4, which we think is an awesome place to shoot. We chose it simply because it had a great view of the C.N Tower. But there are so many great places to explore down there.
The reception was held at an art gallery in Toronto’s Historic Distillery District. Ryan and I love this place. Every time we come to Toronto we try to grab lunch or a coffee down there. Even though we have been there and photographed couples there quite a few times, we were so excited to come back because this was the first time we would get the chance to shoot there at night.
Check out these images below, these are not even all our favorites, these are just a few.
Thank you to Ehsan & Newsha for choosing us to be apart of your amazing wedding day!
Enjoy!
& Ryan
