A country wedding in Prince Edward County, followed by a reception in a barn, it doesn’t get much sweeter than that. Unless of course you were as lucky as we were to photograph Jenna & Ryan. When I think back on their wedding I am reminded of how weddings should be. A weekend long event filled with friends and family, everyone part takes in the preparations, and the partying. When everyone is involved, everyone feels connected to the event in a bigger way, they feel responsible for its success. Weddings should not be up tight, while I love the detail that vendors pay to their crafts, those details should never be on the couples minds. If you choose to have a DIY wedding, then you have got to be the type of couple who sees a bigger picture for their wedding day. You have to be chill, and trusting, and express gratitude. Jenna & Ryan were that couple.
Things that would have made other other couples argue, or brides upset, didn’t even hit the radar of this amazing couple. The forecast called for rain, so everyone helped set up an indoor ceremony, then the forecast said it would pass by us later on during the wedding day, so we all helped and set up the ceremony outside. The rain came, literally as Ryan & Jenna walked down the aisle. Everyone was soaked, guests, the wedding party, the vendors, the family, everyone. Not a single person complained. Actually everyone found it quite funny. During dinner, Ryan’s fellow firefighters served everyone dinner, the bridal party helped clear the tables for the dance floor. Their first dance was perfect, and some of our favourite photos of the day were from those moments. So be sure to scroll to the end of this long post. There are so many amazing and beautiful moments from the day. I would love to tell you all out there, who are getting married that wedding planning is easy, and that as long as your hire the right people you’re wedding will be a success. But the truth is, that you have to be the right people to begin with. You have to know whats important to you, and stay focused on that big goal. All the decor, the food, the expenses, that stuff only lasts for a little while. But the feeling you leave people with after your big day is something you and your guests will not forget.
For us, this wedding was special, maybe because of the photos we were able to take, and maybe it was also because of the awesome venue, but mostly it was because of the people, and their openness, their generosity, and kindness.
Congratulations Jenna & Ryan, their families and friends, and thank you for choosing us to capture your day. It was beyond an honour.
Cheers
& Ryan
