When Andrea & Carl contacted us to photograph their Quebec City pre-wedding photos, we were so excited. They were coming all the way from Singapore, and chose us to be their photographers. But there was one funny little catch, they were not yet engaged! When couples usually book their pre-wedding/engagement photography with us, they usually come with ring in tow. They knew they would eventually make it formal, but at the time they booked, Carl had not yet popped the question. The shoot was still going to be a very special occasion, it was their first trip to Canada and they were going to commemorate that with photos. They opted for a night and day photo shoot, with their evening shoot happening at the historic Fairmont Chateau Frontenac, and their morning photographs at various places around the old city. So when Carl emailed us weeks before to let us in on the secret that he would be proposing to Andrea at the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac, we were beyond thrilled. I had convinced them both to dress up, and for Andrea to have her hair and makeup done for the evening. Carl left her to get ready, and then with the help the amazing hotel staff, they orchestrated a projection on the wall, and even temporarily took down some signage from a conference that was being held at the hotel, just so we could have a nice clear view of the proposal, and for us to discretely hide to capture the moment.
Carl told Andrea that they were to meet us at the top of the grand staircase in the hotel, as that is where the photo shoot would begin, as Andrea stood admiring the beautiful hotel, Carl took her by the hand and proposed. It was sweet and exciting and even better when everyone in that part of the hotel started clapping for them. After the proposal, we continued the excitement and started photographing the newly engaged couple all over the hotel, and the city. The next morning we woke up early enough to have the entire old town to ourselves. It was a first to us to see the streets of busy Quebec City empty. Somewhere between proposals, photos, sightseeing, and too much poutine and French onion soup, we become friends.
Congratulations to our new friends, and the newly engaged couple Carl & Andrea. We wish you all the best on your wedding this coming summer. We can’t wait to catch up with you again in Singapore!
Cheers
& Ryan
