This past summer we were tasked with photographing two weddings for the same family. I hope you all remember the epically beautiful Toronto wedding of Carly & Adam held at the Fermenting Cellar from last June. Near the end of the same summer, Taylor & Aaron were married in a romantic backyard wedding on Georgian Bay, Ontario. For us as wedding photographers, every weekend we walk into a party filled with mostly strangers. So photographing these two weddings was a different experience for us, it felt like photographing old friends. Actually that last statement is true, because even some of the extended family members at the wedding were past clients of ours from years ago. Maybe you remember another stunner of a wedding, Tracy & Ryan’s Muskoka wedding at Sherwood Resort.
We loved how involved Taylor & Aaron’s families were in their wedding day. There is so much couples who come from big families can take away from this wedding, but my favourite would have to be when Taylor had her mom and dad and step dad walk her down the aisle. The first half with her biological dad and the 2nd half with her step dad. It was a really emotional moment to watch, it was symbolic, balanced, honest and real. Everyone felt it.
When it came time to announce Taylor & Aaron into their reception, their parents and their siblings yelled the loudest, clapped the hardest, and showed the most support for their family. During the speeches every one of the speakers, be it family members of friends, thanked all the parents from all sides of Taylor & Aaron’s families. Each set of parents stood up and clapped for one another. There was an overwhelming show of support, love and respect.
So what we took away from this wedding, aside from photos was this; Families are truly amazing, and they work best when they are all together. When everyone in included in the wedding day celebrations making new memories is possible. Our advice to couples; take the opportunity to include your family in your wedding. If you are lucky, this will be the only wedding you have, so make it a great one.
The sunsets on Georgian Bay can simply take your breath away. Taylor & Aaron’s decision to get married on the edge of their parents property, was an easy one for them. Over looking the blue water, and under a perfect blue sky, the newlyweds celebrated what was one of the most exciting, fun, and stunningly beautiful romantic backyard weddings we photographed in 2015, rivalled only by Adam & Carly’s Toronto wedding. (Sorry Taylor & Aaron I had to say it they are our client 🙂 ) This wedding had everything, an amazing location, poolside cocktail reception, rooftop ceremony over looking Georgian Bay, giant tent on the water, a whiskey bar, a photo booth, killer dj, a live band, amazing coordinating staff and production by Jaime Crouch, a sunset to take your breath away, northern lights in the distance, and a fireworks display that would make any Canada Day celebration jealous. But more importantly it was a day of love, a celebration of two childhood sweethearts, and the coming together for 2 amazing families.
It was truly an honour to witness and document your romantic backyard wedding. Congratulations Dexter’s!
Cheers
& Ryan
