We shot the biggest Baby of all!!

by Ryan Rowell

We were so stoked to go to the National Gallery of Canada, I like to consider myself an art buff, but I have never seen any of these artists I love in person, only their work in books at Chapters haha, i actually buy the books too don’t worry.

So on our last day Ryan, Vanessa and I spent hours at the National Gallery. Which to my surprise had some of my favorite artists, i saw some Jackson Pollock, Picasso, Group of Seven, and even some daguerreotypes, which I had never never seen before in person. For those non photographers out there daguerreotypes are an early rare Polaroid like positive that cannot be replicated because they are embedded on to copper plates. They are some of the earliest forms of photography.

But before we saw all those exciting pieces in the gallery Vanessa and I stumbled upon the biggest baby ever, and we shot it ! how could we not, it was a Ron Mueck sculpture who is known for sculpting real human emotion with real human likeness. This below is “Baby Girl” and she was about 20 feet long.

Vanessa browsing the art! The rooms there were just huge we wanted to pull out all our equipment and start doing photo shoots with people walking by.

Daguerreotype, since the Contemporary photography museum was under construction we had to view the photography pieces at the National Gallery, and there was only one small wall in a corner, with dim lighting with photography on it, we got jipped.

The end of our Ottawa Trip, we didn’t stay long enough, we need to see more of Ottawa, maybe when its not a blizzard outside and we can walk around for a bit. This is the outside of the National Gallery.
