Sometimes the best family photo sessions are the ones that simply are about family. We get a lot of inquiries for family portrait sessions and often families feel like they need their photos to be exciting and that they need their families photos need to be highly stylized, and quirky. But the truth is that being a family that is growing together is interesting and exciting enough!
Sometimes the best accessory to any family portraits is a clean house. So we highly recommend just that. Take your photos at home, or in a location that means something to you as a family. Leave the props, and heavily stylized ideas at the door and just be yourselves. The real purpose of family photos is to track the growth of a family and to showcase a legacy. I know those can seem like powerful words, but the next generation will only have photos to remember us all by. So let’s do it right the first time, and take photos that not only capture the emotion of this moment in time with your family, but lets also keep it simple, and look like ourselves; even if we have not shed those extra pounds we wanted, or the zit on your face didn’t go away in time, or whether or not the weather on the day is perfect. One of the most common things families mention to us about what they want for their family portraits is to not make them look contrived. Well here is the advice of the century, Stop trying to fabricate perfection!!! No family, photo shoot or day is perfect, so let’s use that to our advantage and create images that are not perfect but that are just you and your family.
We love these family photos below, they are so simple, just a light in a clean house and two photographers. It even rained for the outdoors photos. Its been a few years since these two have graced our blog. Maybe you remember Kylee & Tom from their Barrie Engagement Session we photographed 5 years ago, the images are some of our favorite of all time, so be sure to check it out! They have been quite busy, now the proud owners of Concept of Movement in Barrie, Ontario, and also the proud mom and pop to an adorable baby girl. We are so proud to have taken their first professional family portraits, and we hope to have the honor was documenting their families growth in the years to come.
Thank you Kylee & Tom for welcoming us into your home, and for introducing us to your beautiful baby girl.
Cheers
& Ryan
