We finally went to Toronto Island. Its been a long time coming. We have kayaked around the island but never actually been on the island. Its quite lovely actually. Its a great spot to ride a bike; and for this engagement session we did just that. Jack and Davina are getting married in Muskoka and wanted to have engagement photos taken in Toronto where they spend most of their time. They love riding bikes too and so Ryan and I brought our new folding Citizen Bikes for them to ride. We love these bikes because that fit easily into our car, and we can pretty much take them anywhere. We plan to go back to the island before the summer is out to explore and ride around some more.
This summer we have photographed so many pre-wedding/engagement sessions, and each one has been so unique, and creative. The couples who tend to gravitate towards our photography are creative and adventurous and want to showcase that in their photo sessions. We love brainstorming ideas with our couples about the locations and themes they want to explore. Even the simplest, every day task (like riding a bike, or taking a ferry) can become utterly romantic with just a little bit of planning. Our inspiration for most of our pre-wedding/engagement sessions is dating and courting. We like the idea of capturing couples enjoying time together for just the fun of it, and doing something they love to do, or visiting a place that means something to them. We like to look at these shoots through the eyes of the storyteller that lives inside us. Seeing potential in an average day in the life of each couple we photograph, and transforming it into something that resembles a scene out of a romantic movie, or a line from a love song, or a throw back to another time.
